Description:
CN9018 has been developed for UV/EB-cured laminating and pressure
sensitive adhesives (PSAs). It is very flexible and produces
tacky PSAs. CN9018 also has good strength properties. Its relatively
high viscosity allows formulating latitude to produce thick
adhesive films, a plus for applications including sound and
vibration dampening.
Tables 1 and 2 show
features and typical physical properties for CN9018.

Table 3 shows a model
formulation used to evaluate CN9018 in a UV-cured PSA. As noted
previously, the relatively high viscosity of CN9018 also may
be helpful in formulating for thick film applications. Shear
adhesion failure temperature (SAFT) increases with the proportion
of CN9018.

Figure 1 compares
180° peel adhesion (ASTM D903) and tack (ASTM D2979) for
the above CN9018-based adhesives. The purpose of this study
is to show a range of adhesive performances based on formulary
variation. The strength and flexibility properties of CN9018
allow formulators to optimize overall performance to meet specific
application requirements. As the adhesive failure modes below
show, CN9018 can be easily formulated to provide compositions
ranging from traditional PSAs to transfer adhesives.
