Description:
CN9167US is an aromatic urethane acrylate specifically designed
for UV/EB lithographic inks. However, it also has utility in
pigmented and non-pigmented UV/EB coatings. It does not contain
a diluent monomer, which allows for greater formulation latitude.
CN9167US exhibits good pigment wetting and is especially useful
in systems that use TiO2
or metallic pigments, since the oligomer has a low acid value.
Below are features
and typical physical properties for CN9167US.

Table
2 shows the base formulation that was used to compare CN9167US
to other commercial products that are commonly used in UV/EB
lithographic inks.

As
shown in Table 3, CN9167US outperformed the industry representative
polyester acrylates by exhibiting faster cure speed and better
wet and dry rub resistance. This performance can be linked to
the higher Tg of CN9167US, which yields a harder ink upon cure.

When used
in a UV/EB lithographic ink, CN9167US imparts excellent water
balance. The Lithotronic graph in Figure 1 illustrates the
ability of CN9167US to maintain rheology when varying amounts
of fountain solution are added. A plateau where the torque
remains constant as fountain solution is added is desired.
In Figure 1 the CN9167US-based ink has constant rheology,
as up to 10 mL of fountain solution has been added.
