Low Toxicity Monomers: What Are Their Physical Advantages?

Acrylourethane oligomers are used in combination with acrylic terminated mono-and multifunctional monomers, which are then polymerized to yield protective coatings for many end use products. This revised technical paper focuses on the physical properties (tensile, elongation, elastic modulus) associated with mono-, di- and tri-functional monomers in correlation with acrylourethane oligomers. Through presentation of test data it will be shown that physical properties may be predicted without laborious trial and error formulating techniques. Descriptions are given for the use of these techniques to adjust tensile, elongation and modulus of acrylourethane oligomers and acrylate-terminated monomers.
